About St. George
The Town of St. George lies at the heart of Mid-Coast Maine, on a peninsula which forms the western boundary of Penobscot Bay. It covers an area of 23 square miles including some 218 ocean islands, 123 of those islands are smaller than .1 acres and would probably be better described as ledges than islands. The year-round population is about 3000, with a summertime increase to an estimated 7000. Incorporated in 1803, St. George has an annual town meeting, is governed by a Select Board, and has a town manager for its daily administration.

Lobster Stew Supper has been cancelled

The St George Volunteer Firefighters and Ambulance Association's annual Lobster Stew Supper fundraiser scheduled for Saturday, September 4th, has been cancelled due to the anticipated arrival of Hurricane Earl. (posted 9/2)

Access to Vital Records

On July 12, 2010, new laws went into effect regarding access to vital records. If you need a certified copy of a birth, marriage or death certificate, please contact the Town Office for information on who may obtain a certificate and what ID will be required. (posted 7/22)

Select Board sets 2010 Mil Rate & Commits Taxes

On July 19th the Select Board set the mil rate for 2010 at $7.30 and committed the taxes to the Tax Collector. The total commitment for 2010 was down by 2.2% from 2009. Background information is available on the Assessing page. (posted 7/20)

Select Board creates Education Options Committee

On Monday, July 19th, the Select Board approved the committee charge for an Ad Hoc Education Options Committee. On August 9th they will discuss membership on the committee. (posted 7/20)
